Never Never Distilling Co. took home World's Best Classic Gin at the World Gin Awards this week.

Never Never Distilling Co, who we met back in June 2017, have quickly ascended the ranks of the global gin industry, taking out the World’s Best Classic Gin at the World Gin Awards in London, the first Australian gin to do so.

“This is a huge accolade for our young distillery,” managing director of Never Never, George Georgiadis said via media release.

“It’s a much coveted award and firmly puts Australia and South Australian gin on the world map.”

The accolade adds to an already bumper year for the brand, which was recognised as one of the top 10 trending brands in early January by Drinks International, ahead of global heavyweights Hendrick’s Tanqueray, Bombay, and Australian favourites Four Pillars.

Never Never was not the only local representative at the World Gin Awards; Imperial Measures Distilling (which shares its Thebarton production facility with Never Never while the latter’s McLaren Vale distillery is built) took home a gold medal for Ounce Gin Bold, and Adelaide Hills Distillery was awarded bronze for its Sunset Gin – a mixture of AHD’s gin and bitters, with altered botanical including bush apple, rosella and strawberry gum.

It’s further confirmation of CityMag’s sneaking suspicion that South Australia is on its way to becoming the gin capital of the world. After all, we make so much of the stuff.
