Pizzakaya at Sunny’s feat. Shobosho
Sunny’s and Shōbōsho are joining forces once again this weekend following the success of their recent partnership at Tasting Australia.
With a string of successful collaborations in the past, including with Low & Slow, Roxie’s, and Africola, Ash Wilson from Sunny’s has recognised the value of adapting to different audiences.
Sunny’s x Shōbōsho Pizzakaya
17 Solomon Street, Adelaide
3pm ‘til late Sunday, 5 May
Bookings recommended but not essential
“It’s been a bit of thing now for a while. I think it’s just a bit of a trend at the moment, but in a good way. You have people having conversations, people building relationships,” says Ash.
“It was always something that we wanted to do. And now we know enough people with skin in the game that we can almost just ask our friends if they want to come in and do something.”
With Shōbōsho’s Adam Liston curating the menu for the Pizzakaya event, customers can look forward to enjoying the best of both worlds.
Expect an appearance from some of Shōbōsho’s fan favourites, including their pot-sticker dumplings and karaage fried chicken, adapted to the Sunny’s style.
“Those flavours are pretty easy to manipulate into izakaya style but there’s obviously a lot more rule-breaking from our side,” says Adam.
And, with Hans [Kempster] from Transition Records, Prince Aaronak, and B-Wise deejaying throughout the night, Pizzakaya will be nothing short of a great time.
“It’s a good opportunity to go there on a Sunday to eat some food you’re not normally going to be able to get at Sunny’s for a start, but you’re also going to be able to taste a little bit of Shōbōsho on a more casual level,” Adam says.
“It was never something that was super thought out or aimed at being super serious. It was always about it being just something interesting and something different and something fun. It re-energises the place a little bit when you’ve got something interesting happening and it’s not just your weekly day to days,” says Ash.
The Sunny’s x Shōbōsho Pizzakaya event will be held at the Sunny’s on Solomon Street this Sunday, 5 May, 3pm until late.
“It’s starting in that nice little bit of the afternoon on a Sunday where people generally might not have plans, it gives people something to do, and hopefully everyone will come down and have a good time,” says Ash.
