Main street week on King William Road: MediPedi Nail Spa

Combining the professional standards of a podiatry office with the look, feel, and range of services of a nail spa, Georgina Jamieson from MediPedi is just one more great reason to visit King William Road.

The environment Georgina Jamieson has created within MediPedi Nail Spa is abundantly pleasant.

The mix of white, copper and timber strewn across the room sets the tone exactly how one would expect a nail salon to look and feel.

CityMag is spending the next five days on King William Road. These profiles are part of a new series called Mainstreet Week, where we look into the past, present and future of Adelaide’s highest profile strips.

There is, however, a strong point of difference – Georgina has a degree in podiatry.

“My business partner and myself, Tom, we had podiatry practices up in Sydney for about 10 years,” Georgina says.

“A lot of our clients were coming in to have a podiatry pedicure [and] also wanted to get their nails painted at the same time.

“We also saw problems coming in from the nail bars… an increase in fungal infections coming in, nails that weren’t cut properly… so we just thought we could offer a better service.”

Bringing their expertise back to their hometown in Adelaide, they began scouting locations and found King William Road to be the perfect fit for the business.

“We thought King William Road, people come and they shop and they buy clothes and the go and have coffee and they go and have lunch, and that just worked really well with coming and having your nails done, or coming out for a treat for a day,” Georgina explains.

“I think the vibe’s fantastic. I think it’s really such a lifestyle destination where the locals can walk and get everything done in one spot.”

And Georgina’s trader neighbours wasted no time welcoming her and the MediPedi team into the neighbourhood.

“Before we even opened the doors My House & Home and Bode Hair organised a small fashion parade out the back and had gotten in contact with me about giving a speech and welcoming me,” she says.

“It’s been incredible, actually. The community has just been amazing.”

Convenience is another focal point for MediPedi, being one of the few nail spas that will take online reservations. But Georgina hopes what really stands out is the quality products and professional service.

“I think because we’re a new idea, and we’re an Australian first idea in the way that we’re approaching this as a nail bar combined with a specialised podiatry service on site, we are getting people travelling to us, which is fantastic,” she says.
