Velo-fringe opening night

In the tradition of all good fringe festivals everywhere, Velo-fringe seems to be outgrowing its foundation event before it even begins.

Cycling planning conference Velo-City Global is supposedly the main event – but that doesn’t kick off until May 27. With the array of lateral thinking speakers scheduled for Velo-city we’re actually quite excited about it, but the prospect of cyclists overtaking the city and surrounds for Velo-fringe from May 16 is equally awesome.

There are a few ways to celebrate opening night, but we think the Bike Parade (which goes by the noteworthy name “Tonight the Streets are Ours”) is the best plan. Meet at Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga at 6.15pm and then join the wave of two-wheeled vehicles heading to the Velorama opening party at the State Library where there will be films, food, music and – of course – heaps of bikes.

6.15pm, May 16
Starting at Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga
