The Maker & Me has begun its second series of 2020, once again taking over Yiasou George once a week to introduce a lucky 20 ticketholders to a choice South Australian winemaker, kicking off on Tuesday, 10 November with Eden Valley producer Edenflo.

Founder and winemaker Andrew Wardlaw will be in attendance, guiding attendees through some new, some old, and some much loved wines from the Edenflo catalogue.

The event will be hosted by The Fruitful Pursuit’s James Hopkins and Tyler Grace Austin.

“Andrew’s operating on a very small scale out of Angaston. Mostly ‘a tonne here, a tonne there’ type of operation,” James tells CityMag.

“He’s been in the game for years but has been making wine under EDENFLO since 2017. We’re lucky he’s got enough wine to share in one of these sessions, to be honest, especially with the older stock.

“He plays with a lot of old vine Shiraz and Riesling. Really old gnarly stuff from Eden Valley. Also Grenache, gewürztraminer and semillon. All made with very low intervention in the winery. He works bloody hard in the vineyard too, mostly on the solo. He’s true vigneron.”

James describes the wine label as “a great example of the creative flex a winemaker possesses when working in such small quantities.”

“I think Andrew’s one of those gifted types that sees flavour or something,” James continues. “There’s something magical going on under the surface here.”

The Maker & Me is held every Tuesday at Yiasou George right up until 8 December, when the event will be going on summer break.
