The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters

  • Image: Emilija Kasumovic, 'Ominous' detail

Fascinated by the nature of dreaming and the lack of rationale that comes with it, 18th century Spanish artist, Francisco Goya, created The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters – an etching featuring a flock of owls and bats encroaching on the sleeping artist.

Remarks

The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters opens at 5:30pm Thursday, June 8 at Carclew Foyer Gallery, 11 Jeffcott Street, North Adelaide. The exhibition will run until July 30.

Exploring this theme further, Olivia Kubiak has curated an exhibition of Adelaide artists, all drawing on their experience of dreams, nightmares, and the thoughts that flood in when reason is at rest.

The exhibition opening is running from 5:30-7:30pm Thursday, 8 June and will be on display until 30 July. For further information, see the event page.
