Which makes Speaking from the South a crucible of inspiration and a rebel yell.

The 6-day program brings together writers and thinkers from across the Global South and the Southern Hemisphere and is part of The University of Adelaide’s 150-year celebrations. Among those appearing are Nobel Laureates JM Coetzee and Abdulrazak Gurnah.

The Friday to Sunday program features talks, film screenings, writing masterclasses and public lectures. This is followed by a free 3-day academic conference that is also open to the public and includes speakers such as Gabeeba Baderoon, Isaac Ndlovu and Denise deCaires Narain.

Tickets cost up to $10 per session or up to $20 for a masterclass. Students can pay as little as $1.
