Mother Nature is a Lesbian Exhibition

  • Image: Andrew Hill, Management deliberately employ women, 1984, serigraph, colour inks on paper, 56.

The poster is celebrated as a medium for change in this exhibition at the Flinders University City Gallery.

Examining political posters from the last decades of the 20th century, curator Celia Dottore has highlighted works which contrasted typography and imagery to achieve high impact and dynamism. Celia drew on the extensive range of posters that are part of Flinders University’s printed collection, as well as posters loaned by artists.

The resulting exhibition catalogues a series of historical events in South Australia – covering marches, protests and issues of racism, environmentalism and sexual equality. As well as being a catalogue though it also gives a wider perspective on the mechanisms of change and how people band together to raise their voices.

Mother Nature is a Lesbian shows in conjunction with Tooth and Nail’s Postered: Adelaide exhibition which features new poster works from local artists.

Showing until July 13
Flinders University City Gallery is located within the State Library of South Australia
