Italian Film Festival 2022
The Italian Film Festival has returned to the Palace Nova Eastend and Prospect cinemas in Adelaide, bringing with it a range of Italian cinema direct from the festival circuit.
On Wednesday, 21 September, the festival opened with an Australia premiere of Belli Ciao, from comedy duo Pio and Amedeo, about two once inseparable friends who reunite in their hometown of Puglia after years apart.
After having played at Cannes this year, Mario Martone’s Nostalgia joins the Italian Film Festival lineup, a drama about a man who returns to Naples after 40 years to face a past that haunts him.
The lineup also boasts three documentaries: Ennio – The Maestro, about the Italian composer Ennio Morricone; Salvatore: Shoemaker of Dreams, about shoemaker to the stars, Salvatore Ferragamo; and Power of Rome, which traces the birth of the Roman Empire and the history of the city.
This year’s Italian Film Festival will close on Sunday, 16 October, with a screening of the 1963 classic trilogy Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, starring Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni.
There’s plenty more to explore in the 2022 Italian Film Festival lineup.
