Hugo Michell Gallery presents two exhibitions from leading local artists.

Remarks

Narelle Autio’s ‘Indifference’ and Sophia Nuske’s ‘Slip of the Pun’ are showing at Hugo Michell Gallery – 260 Portrush Road, Beulah Park from August 27.

Narelle Autio is one of Australia’s leading contemporary photographers.

Narelle’s vibrant and award-winning pictures of Australian landscapes and coastal life have won her impressive national and international acclaim. Her images give back to the Australian landscape the complexity, drama and beauty that are eroded by postcards and clichés. For Indifference, she presents a dazzling and brooding series of images of roadkill and landscapes.

Sophia Nuske is an emerging ceramic artist based in Adelaide. Through hand-building replicas, Sophia invites viewers to refocus their attention on common, overlooked objects. By playing with the inherent language of these things, the chains of associated ideas are stretched, creating humorous juxtapositions guided by wordplay. Her subtly altered objects are resituated in the gallery, installed amongst items of the everyday to mimic their original context. Through these installations, Nuske invites viewers to renegotiate their surroundings and how they engage with objects of the everyday.
