That’s why this July, LibrariesSA is launching Firstival — a month-long festival encouraging everyone to rediscover the joy of being a beginner.

From Keith to Kangaroo Island, public libraries across the state are hosting hundreds of events designed to create more first times.

You could learn to use your first native ingredient, brew your first craft beer, build your first worm farm, solve your first escape room or make your first kaleidoscope.

Damian Garcia, President of Public Libraries Association of SA, says Firstival is an initiative developed to rekindle South Australians’ curiosity, nurture a lifelong love of learning and remind us all of the essential role public libraries play in our society.

“Learning keeps the heart young, the mind rich and the soul satisfied. And public libraries are our shared space to learn,” Damian says.

“If you haven’t been in one in a while, think of Firstival as an open invitation to walk through the doors and see what’s waiting inside.”

Firstival will take place throughout July at public libraries across South Australia.
