Even Still

  • Words: Elaine Cheng
  • Artwork: CJ Taylor

When it comes to still life, you may think of your first art class in high school, like when you were forced to stare at a pile of fruit, or write a long essay about a basket of apples and allegorical symbolism. All these experiences may have turned still life into a mundane genre that you no longer want to explore.

Remarks

Even Still is showing at Level 1, Adelaide Town Hall from February 11 to April 8.

Now is the time to change all of this. Even Still will take you through the intricacies behind still life and the stories captured by objects through metaphor. Curated by Joanna Kitto, the exhibition explores an Australian lifestyle and our cultural identity through painting, photography, jewellery, and sculpture. Participating artists include Morgan Allender (SA), Narelle Autio (SA), Peta Kruger (SA), Will Nolan (SA), Andy Nowell (SA), CJ Taylor (SA), Billie Justice Thompson (VIC), James Taylor (SA), Sera Waters (SA) and Amy Joy Watson (SA).

Presented by the Adelaide City Council’s Emerging Curator Program, Even Still will be opened by Margaret Hancock Davis, the Senior Curator of JamFactory at Adelaide Town Hall from 5:30 pm till 7:30 pm on Wednesday 17 February 2016. Entry is free and everyone is welcome.
