In its 10th year Bowerbird Design Market boasts an incredible 200 stalls with many favourites returning after a hiatus and some new brands setting up shop for the weekend for the very first time.
Five stalls you’ve never seen at Bowerbird before
Bowerbird Design Market’s reputation has been built over the past decade on constantly creating a zestful environment of creative collaboration that supports all kinds of cottage industries from Adelaide and around Australia.
Bowerbird combines a passion for handmade, unique products with buyers’ desire to meet the makers and learn more about their processes.
If jewellery, succulents and pottery are what come to mind when you think of market events, you’re in for a big surprise. With over 200 stalls catering to a very broad audience, we’ve gone and found five you’ve never seen at Bowerbird before.
Audrey Gachet
Having heard that Bowerbird is more than just a marketplace to view beautiful products, Audrey of Audrey Gachet said being part of Bowerbird has been a “personal and business goal” of hers for some time.
Audrey’s designs are all about organic, raw and delicate hand-painted illustrations, adding a natural and luxurious ambiance to your home or wardrobe. Her Sydney-based business has a significant proportion of her customer base local to South Australia, so she’s hoping to meet some of her loyal clients who purchase from her range of bags, prints and cushions.
With a strong brand ethos that centres around sustainability, Audrey is looking forward to connecting with those who foster the same appreciation for designs, who are conscious of their environmental footprint, but who also love fashion, style and home decoration.
Jade & Frankie
After moving to Adelaide last December, Clare of Jade & Frankie thought Bowerbird would be a great opportunity for her to introduce her business to the handmade community after hearing that it was a, “wonderfully supportive and friendly market”.
Clare’s unique and colourful woven wall-hanging creations are perfect for those looking for an alternative to traditional art for their homes. With a hope of her customers discovering new ways to add warmth and texture that they maybe haven’t seen before, Clare’s colourful creations are perfect for those looking to add personality to their homes or soften the audio acuteness of room full of hard surfaces.
Ripple & Co.
Admiring the platform that Bowerbird creates for, “independent creativity and individuals taking passion to fruition”, Jane of Ripple & Co. has followed Bowerbird from the ‘Sunshine State’ for a while.
With the timing of this November’s Bowerbird aligning with the official release of Ripple & Co., Jane’s decided to return home to Adelaide, delighted to share in the market experience.
With bags that are designed to go everywhere that you do, Jane’s looking forward to connecting with those who have an eye for premium quality and design, as well as those seeking a trusted ‘go-to’ for their daily routine and adventures.
Sarah Allen
After showcasing at markets in Melbourne, Sarah of Sarah Allen has been pushing herself to develop her range of prints, cards and kid’s décor in hopes to showcase her work and connect with SA customers.
With a strong reputation for being one of Australia’s best design markets, Sarah’s thrilled to have herself a spot in the November line-up as “there’s nothing better than getting feedback in person,” and she tells CityMag she’s looking “forward to meeting lots of new faces.”
Inspired by nature, Sarah’s bold and bright prints are for those who value a connection to nature and have a strong bond with Australian flora and fauna. Through her children’s illustrations, she hopes to foster a connection to nature and expand knowledge of Australian wildlife.
Ms Wood
With the word on the street that Bowerbird is “huge, really well run, packed with people and a real buzz,” Matt of Ms Wood decided it was time to take the leap and put his hat in the ring for one of Adelaide’s biggest markets.
Matt’s love of recycled timber started when he stumbled across some floorboards salvaged from a demolished wool store and as Ms Wood continues to grow, as does his craftsmanship. From luxurious serving boards, wine caddies, unique timber gifts, Matt also creates custom furniture for those on the hunt for that special piece.
