What to do this ANZAC day

Looking for a caffeine fix and big brekky after the dawn service or a few bevvies and live music for your day off? We’ve got you sorted with a list of events and places open this public holiday.

UNION HOTEL’S ANZAC DAY STREET PARTY

The Union Hotel will hold its annual ANZAC Day Street Party. Waymouth Street will be taken over by music, food stalls, beer tents, wine tents, and the annual Legacy Foundation BBQ fundraiser. The free event is an excellent way to spend your day off grazing on food and sipping on drinks into the night.

DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE WINES

Arguably one of SA’s coolest wineries, Down The Rabbit Hole, is opening its doors open this ANZAC Day. Take a day trip to McLaren Vale’s own wonderland to feast on famous platters and sip on local wines whilst soaking in the autumn sun. Your furry friends are even welcome at this one, but make sure to keep them on a leash if they’re a little too friendly and likely to disrupt others.

There’s no need to book if you just want to enjoy the lawns, platters, and a glass of wine but bookings are essential if you’d like to dine in the restaurant.

When: 11 am ‘til 5 pm with the kitchen open 12 pm ‘til 3:30 pm

SEVEN GROUNDS

This one is for the early risers and dawn service attendees. Seven Grounds will be ready at 8am with coffee brewing, freshly baked pastries and cooked brekkies. For those who have jumped on the matcha trend, this is the place to go to try a delicious iced pandan matcha. If you’re looking for something a little different, try the handmade breakfast dumplings filled with pork mince, eggs and spring onions dressed in soy and chilli oil. Yum!

No need to book, walk-ins are welcome.

FRENZY THE BAND AT THE FOUNDERS RESTAURANT

Looking for some entertainment this Sunday but the bank account’s looking a little low? Head to The Founders Restaurant in the afternoon to watch Frenzy the band for free! If you’d prefer to come by for brekky, you can grab yourself a coffee or juice for free with any breakfast purchased. We’ve got our eyes on the breakfast tower…

THE HAZYS FEAT. MUM THINKS BLUE AND ST. LOKI @ CROWN & ANCHOR HOTEL

If one gig wasn’t enough for your public holiday, head to Adelaide’s iconic Cranker. The Hazys will be launching their new single “Trampoline” along with Mum Thinks Blue and St. Loki from 8 pm. Come down for a bevvy or two along the street before heading in to dance the night away listening to some local Indie-Rock. We hope you took Friday off too!

OLIVE RESTAURANT

Masterchef star Callum Hann and Themis Chryssidis worked together for 12 years before opening their Mediterranean fusion restaurant Olive in 2023. They cover all sorts of Mediterranean food, from Moroccan to Middle Eastern. Feast on everything from slow roast lamb shoulder to BBQ octopus. Treat yourself to a basque cheesecake or lemoncello tiramisu before making your way home for a well-deserved sleep.

SKILLOGALEE ESTATE

What better way to spend a public holiday than with a crisp glass of riesling in hand? Skillogalee in Sevenhill is open for just this on Thursday. Take a day trip up to the Clare Valley and try their famous riesling. Maybe even indulge yourself in their restaurant in the historic 1850’s stone settler’s cottage whilst you’re there.

We suggest booking for this one as it’s bound to be popular.

C.R.E.A.M

This is the ideal location if you have had a big Wednesday night celebrating an extra day off. Eat away your hangover and regrets with a savoury donut brekky sandwich and pump yourself full of quality coffee. Not up for a coffee? Don’t worry, Cream has you sorted with freshly squeezed juices and thickshakes.

Get in early for this one, there’s often a line at the door!

SEVEN STARS HOTEL

You’ll be thanking your lucky stars the Seven Stars Hotel is open for lunch this Thursday for a classic pub feed and a beer. Support a family run business this public holiday by kicking back with a drink in hand and a classic schnitty. There’s even an eggplant one if you’re vegan. If you’re not so keen on the pub classics, don’t worry, there’s something for everyone. Maybe you’d prefer a green apple and walnut salad?

Booking is a good idea as this place can fill up fast!

ANZAC DAY 8 BALL KNOCKOUT @ EMPIRE BAR & POOL

If you’re not in the mood for food, drinks or live music why not head to Empire Bar and Pool and try something a little different. This venue is filled with pool tables ready for social fun or serious competition. For those of you aren’t eight-ball superstars don’t worry, the games are open to all players of all skill levels. Come join in, watch the fun or kick back and watch the footy on the big screen from 2:50 pm.
