Spin Off is back despite sister festival, Splendour in the Grass, being cancelled for 2024.

Spin Off remains co-promoted by Secret Sounds and local company Five Four Entertainment.

Five Four Entertainment director Craig Lock says that while the interstate festival is no longer happening, its existing lineup plans meant Spin Off was able to prosper beyond the Splendour cancellation.

“Despite Splendour in the Grass no longer going ahead, many of the acts are still coming to Australia to play their own headline shows in other cities,” he says.

“Because of those existing plans and schedules, Spin Off was able to retain many artist bookings and remain possible.”

Craig says he and the team are confident the festival will still go ahead as they have “booked a great lineup of exciting and unique artists” while being a “fantastic value for money price point”.

Third-release tickets are priced at $149.90, while fifth-release tickets are priced at $189.90.

The seventh edition of the festival will take place on Friday, July 19 at the Adelaide Showgrounds.

The new stage, House Party, has just been announced in collaboration with Cherry Nightclub, hosted by MC Manov. This stage will feature entirely local DJs.

Cherry resident DJs Brad, Jonny K, Krystal and more are set to grace the stage, playing pop, party anthems and RnB tracks all day.

Cherry’s head of marketing and entertainment, Tom Ganly, is excited to be hosting a stage at this year’s Spin Off festival.

“When the opportunity arose to collab with Adelaide’s fav mid-year festival we jumped at it,” Tom says.

“Spin Off has been doing great things in SA for a number of years now, and it makes perfect sense for Cherry to be a part of the event.”

The regular line-up has a mix of Aussie talent and international icons making their Australian debuts.

Norway-born singer girl in red is one of the Spin Off headliners.

She’s an alt-pop musician with her debut single ‘i wanna be your girlfriend’ taking over earbuds all across Australia. Her Billie Eilish-like sound has made it on stages across the globe, as she’s played at Oya and Glastonbury.

Conan Gray will perform songs from his anticipated third album, FOUND HEAVEN, as he is also set to hit the Spin Off stage.

This pop star and songwriter has been praised by the likes of Billboard, Rolling Stone, and now CityMag (😉).

G Flip is returning to an Adelaide festival after performing at Wildlands earlier this year. Their sophomore album DRUMMER had seven songs featured in the Triple J Hottest 100 list for 2023, with ‘The Worst Person Alive’ reaching number two.

Big names like Peach PRC, The Last Dinner Party and Michael Marcagi will be making their way to the Adelaide Showgrounds as well.

Purée, an Adelaide-based band and Triple J Unearthed winner, will be joining the main stage bringing energetic sounds and elements of indie rock and jangle pop.

The Sound Archive stage – a dedicated dance area with local heavy-weight electronic acts and DJs rostered to play – is returning this year with DJ Seinfeld, Sam Alfred, Jamesjamesjames and Triple J Unearthed winner, Waxx Off.

After researching Adelaide music festival artist representation in 2023, CityMag discovered 70.5 per cent of Spin Off’s 2023 lineup was non-male. This lineup so far is still above average in gender representation, with 64.7 per cent of artists being non-male.

While Craig acknowledges the festival scene is a “challenging space at the moment”, he says “great events are still connecting with audiences and [he believes] that Spin Off is one of those events”.

“People still want to have fun and enjoy live music, and we want to continue to provide the Adelaide community with such important cultural experiences,” he says.

“We are excited to present another successful festival in July and look forward to hosting the artists and fans at Spin Off 2024.”
