Four events to help relieve Gather Round withdrawals

While we wave goodbye to Gather Round after another successful year taking over Adelaide, there's still much for SA to offer. We’ve found four events this weekend to rouse footy fans from their post-Gather Round slump.

The 500 Lacrosse Tournament

Sturt Lacrosse Club, Women’s Memorial Playing Fields, Shepherds Hill Road, St Marys SA 5042

Woodville, East Torrens Payneham, Sturt and East Fremantle lacrosse clubs are set to fight for a trophy this weekend to celebrate each club celebrating their 125th anniversary.

Expect loads of fun, competition and even some classic Australian local sports canteen food and drinks.

The first men’s game kicks off Friday 12 April at Sturt Lacrosse Club at 7pm followed by the women’s at 8pm. The games will continue throughout the weekend until the winners are crowned on Sunday.

2024 Australian Athletics Championships

SA Athletics Stadium in Mile End

On your marks… the 2024 Australian Athletics Championships start today and will continue until 19 April.

It’s the first time Adelaide has hosted the championships since 1992 and has attracted athletes from 15 countries.

The 101st edition of the championships will act as a key part of the nomination process for the Australian Olympic and Paralympic Teams travelling to the Paris 2024 Games.

The Australian Olympic Committee in expected to make the first round of selections for the Olympic team on the ground in Adelaide.

On until 19 April with a range of pass options available.

Adelaide Adrenaline vs Sydney Bears ice hockey game

The Ice ArenA, 23 James Congdon Dr, Thebarton SA 5031

Yep! South Australia has its very own ice hockey team. After uncertainty last year on whether the South Australian Ice Hockey team would have ice to play on, Adelaide Adrenaline returns to the ice this weekend for their first league game of the season against Sydney Bears.

For those unfamiliar with the sport, expect a fast-paced, exciting and, quite frankly, brutal game that will draw in even those a little unsure on sport.

The teams will face off this Saturday 13 April at The Ice ArenA from 4:30pm.

Yorke Peninsula’s Saltwater Classic

Stansbury and Port Vincent

Okay, this one isn’t a sport, we know. But it is well worth the visit for anyone interested in sailing, water sports, boats or just wanting something different to do this weekend.

Head down to either Stansbury on Saturday or Port Vincent on Sunday to admire boats, enjoy live music, food, coffee, boat launches and the Grande Parade of Boats.

The festivities start at 9am in Stansbury on Saturday 13 April and in Port Vincent Sunday 14 April.
