The list of hits include double smoked turkey, cranberry sauce and a house-made roast stuffing feat. apricot and bacon bits.
Hello Sarnie’s Christmas sandwich is available from today and it is the definition of merry
The Hello Sarnie Christmas sandwich is a limited-time-only type deal. Basically the business has thrown its margins out the window on this sandwich and put out a product that is way too good on the value-for-money scale.
“Christmas is the best time of year and to get in the festive spirit, we want to make the best Christmas sarnie possible for our customers,” says co-founder of Hello Sarnie Andrew Pearce, after describing what’s inside the December-only sandwich.
The Christmas Sarnie is available to pre-order on the Hello Sarnie App and is also available for catering customers as part of their Christmas catering deals.
There’s double-smoked turkey and cranberry sauce, of course. There’s the house-made mayo, which somehow magically stops your bread from getting too dry or too soggy in its custom box. But the show-stealer and budget breaker has to be the stuffing.
“We take all the bread cut-offs from our other products to make our own in-house crumb, then put this together with caramelised onion, pieces of apricot and crispy bacon,” says Hello Sarnie’s head chef, Ben Allen.
“We put that all in a bowl and blitz it up and then bake the stuffing all together so the bacon and onion cooks and caramelises together and the flavours soak into the breadcrumbs too.”
CityMag tastes a sample sandwich the week before launch and it is absolutely delicious. Ben assures us the sandwich you’ll get in store this week will be even better.
“This sandwich is a labour of love in our kitchen,” says Ben with a chuckle. “Even though it’s one of our most time-consuming products, it’s definitely the favourite. It’s well worth the effort for the final taste.”
Did we just lick our lips? Uh huh, yep.
Ben’s been with Hello Sarnie since inception. He took the job after stints cheffing the daytime gigs at breakfast joints across town including Long Lost Friend and The Store in North Adelaide.
“The best part about having a chef in our business is the finesse and creativity he brings to the back end,” says Andrew.
“Ben gives us an edge against our competitors as he is always striving to improve the flavours and presentation of our products. In Ben we’ve got someone who’s adding value to the bigger picture at Hello Sarnie.”
The Hello Sarnie Christmas Sarnie is available from today, Monday, 2 December until Friday, 20 December. The Christmas Sarnie includes Double-smoked Turkey, house-made bacon and apricot stuffing, baby spinach, cranberry sauce, sarnie mayo, and special sarnie seasoning on dark rye. The sandwich retails for just $9.95 and for extra “good list” points, Hello Sarnie are giving 25¢ from each Christmas sandwich sold to their charity partner, OzHarvest’s Christmas Appeal.
