A month on from announcing its return in a new, summer format, Adelaide’s Beer & BBQ Festival has announced its 2020 HomeBrewed brewery lineup.

Due to COVID travel restrictions, the lineup was scheduled differently this year.

Remarks

Beer & BBQ HomeBrewed
4—6 December
Adelaide Showground, Wayville 5034
Tickets and more info

The festival reached out to a range of SA breweries who could all invite a guest to attend the festival with them. The guest could be from South Australia, interstate or even international, and they did not necessarily need to be a brewery.

The result is a lineup with 28 South Australian breweries on show, 17 imported breweries (including one UK participant), and a smattering of South Australian distilleries, wineries, cidermakers, and one coffee roaster.

The Gilbert Street Hotel is also getting involved, programming the festival’s International Sour Bar with a selection of summer-ready brews.

South Australian breweries in attendance are Barossa Valley Brewing, Beer Garden Brewing, BeerNoEvil, Big Shed Brewing Concern, Brewboys Brewery, Coopers Brewery, Fox Hat Brewing, Goodieson Brewery, Lady Burra Brewhouse, Left Barrel Brewing, Loophole Brewing, Ministry of Beer, Mismatch Brewing, Moana Brewing, One Barrel Brewing, Pirate Life Brewing, Prancing Pony Brewery, Robe Town Brewery, Shapeshifter Brewing, Shifty Lizard Brewing, Silver Bark Brewery, Snapper Point Brewing, Sparkke Change Beverage Co, The Suburban Brew, Thug Life Brewing, Uraidla Brewery, Vale Brewing and Watsacowie Brewing.

The brewers visiting from interstate include Alice Springs Brewing, Ballistic Beer, Balter Brewing, Bond Store Wallaroo, Bridge Road Brewers, Cattleyard Brewing, Exit Brewing, Hop Nation, Modus Operandi Brewing, Molly Rose Brewing, Moon Dog Craft Brewery, Range Brewing, Sauce Brewing Co, Slipstream Brewing, White Bar Beer Co and Young Henrys.

The single international guests for the event is Warwickshire, UK brewery Purity Brewing.

Interstate breweries will either freight stock over for the festival, or they may attend the festival themselves, depending on how they’re affected by coronavirus travel restrictions.

For those wanting to broaden their booze palate, there will be cider available from Hills Cider Company, Jachmann Cider, Lobo Cider and Side Project Cider and Beerworks; spirits from Adelaide Hills Distillery, Lobo Spirits, Never Never Distilling and Soul Bird Distilling; and wine from Cape Jaffa Wines, Mollydooker Wines and Riot Wine Co.

Port Lincoln coffee roastery Eyre Roasted will be providing punters with caffeine hits.

Adelaide Beer & BBQ co-founder Gareth Lewis says he aims for the HomeBrewed concept to exist as a separate identity to the festival’s main winter event.

Coming out from the darkness of winter allows the festival to be “a bit more irreverent and take ourselves less seriously,” Gareth says.

“We’re treating it as the little cousin, and…we’re trying to give it a whole different identity. It’s a whole different place in the Showgrounds, it’s on a different site, on the Ferris wheel site, so it’s all open air and grassed and shade and all of that sort of thing.”

As CityMag reported last month, there is an extensive list of food vendors signed on to appear.

The food lineup consists of Afri-disiac, Angler Stirling, Barry’s Burgers, Boston Bay Smallgoods by Smokin’ Grillers, CARŌclub, Drews Soul Food & BBQ, Fire x Soi38, Four Seeds, Gang Gang, Lovefield Bistecca Italian BBQ and No Beard Required BBQ.

Beer & BBQ has always prided itself on its music offering too, and has programmed an all-SA lineup, with The Superjesus, West Thebarton, Wolf & Cub, Towns, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Weezer, Stabbitha & The Knifey Wifeys, Oscar The Wild, Hey Harriet and Chunky Custard all slated to perform.

There will be a range of activations happening throughout each day of the festival, and some more surprises scheduled to be announced in the coming months.

Just like the winter event, HomeBrewed will occur in four sessions held over three days, with the final Sunday session being family- and pet-friendly.

Beer & BBQ HomeBrewed is scheduled to happen from Friday, 4 December through to Sunday, 6 December 2020.
