For interior designer and property stylist Jess Chiswell, the Jetty Road community influenced her decision to open her homewares and design business, Fox + Bower, in the area.

“Originally I wasn’t looking at having my design studio and storefront in the Bay,” Jess says.

“It wasn’t until I spent a couple days walking around and speaking to other shop owners that I made my decision to come down.”

Fox + Bower has been a part of the Jetty Road retail scene since midway through this year. In that time, Jess has found returning visitors to her store range from locals to travellers, who are all coming to enjoy the lifestyle the Bay and its businesses have to offer.

“The locals that come, come for the coastal relaxing vibe, that’s what the Bay provides,” Jess says.

“It’s a big community, we’re all here for one thing: to have great food, entertainment and shopping… Everyday there’s something different and the area is constantly evolving.”

The Goldsmithery’s Volker Sprinkmeier agrees the evolution of the area is clear.

Having spent time working from a space in the city, when he came back to the business’ Glenelg location, he noticed it had distinctly modernised.

Business owners and community members agree the shopping, dining and environment are key reasons to visit the Bay.

Rohit Pun, manager of Swedish Tarts, says he sees this as regular customers come in to enjoy a cup of coffee and discuss what activities they’re going to do in the Bay.

For visitors and locals frequenting the area, the open-air shopping strip and its surrounding community makes for an inviting day-trip destination.
