In this edition, we thought about the festival essentials: what do we take with us, what do we wear, and what ideas swirl around our eager minds as we flit from venue to venue.
CityMag has always championed South Australian artists, but at this time of year, the cusp of February melding into mad March, it’s easier to do so. Artists are more visible and event organisers are rolling big tops out of their boxes to give them a stage.
We’re currently seeing behavioural changes in the way Adelaideans are supporting artists. Venue owners in the west end have described the night-time economy as dire.
So, in a time where Adelaideans are opting to save their hard-earned cash for a music festival over a weekly pub gig, CityMag set out to see if Adelaide’s festivals are doing enough to offer opportunities for the bands filtering through the small-medium venue pipeline.
We also checked in to see how all the venues stack up when it comes to their environmental ethos. We spent some time with Clare Falzon at a public BBQ, and ate our way through Katsu sandos.
These stories will appear on our website in the coming weeks and months, but nothing beats the feeling of flicking through a hard copy while sipping on your beverage of choice between festival events.
Find your free CityMag at a range of venues throughout the CBD and suburbs – there are stands in popular Fringe venues, or swing by 165 Grenfell Street and pick up a copy from the stand outside our office (while we have them in stock).
We love it and we hope you do too, happy reading!
