What to wear: Fly me to the Merlion

Jump on the six-hour direct flight from Adelaide to Singapore for a whirlwind business trip and wear out some shoe leather in the little country that could.

  • Words: Farrin Foster and Joshua Fanning

For the man:

Keep cool in the heat and cut through the crowds with an Atticus Finch linen on linen on linen look with Oliver People’s frames perched on top.

  • Glasses – Oliver Peoples’ Gregory Peck style shades give you the confidence to make the connection.
  • Jacket – Light and versatile, Country Road’s chambray linen jacket resists crumpling so you can just shake and go.
  • Shirt – Dark chambray from Ralph Lauren because: sweat patches.
  • Tie – Putting on a solid knit silk tie in 100 per cent humidity says you mean business.
  • Trousers – Tailored trousers from P. Johnson will make the right impression in a brand-conscious environment like Singapore without being too predictable.
  • Shoes – Nothing is more optimistic than white canvas sneakers in a big city. Keeping them white will impress everyone you meet.

For the lady:

To achieve Singapore success, keep ahead of the fashion-forward city’s curve and beat the heat with loose clothing that creates sharp lines.

  • Pants – Uniqlo’s Lemaire Seersucker pants are straight up and down, just like your business style.
  • Shirt – If you’re going to sweat (and you are) you may as well do it in silk from Equipment.
  • Jacket – Avoid creases with this cheap but well cut Tuxedo Blazer from Forever 21. You won’t even mind leaving it behind at those networking drinks.
  • Shoes – A mid heel means you’ll get from meeting to meeting at high speed. Keep it classic with nude pumps from Fratelli Karida.
  • Accessories – Be Adelaide proud (and not so beige) by sporting Julie White’s Pavlova scarf and Naomi Murrell’s petite pinball thread earrings in silver.
  • Bag – It’s your home and office for the next few days so make it nice – the Robe di Firenze from Forzieri should sort it.
