Foodie love for the West End

CityMag took to the streets to explore the delicious feeds offered around the West End. Nothing beats the relaxed vibes of this part of town on a Friday afternoon (before the nightclub-goers venture out).
We started our search at Peter Rabbit and wandered around Hindley Street on a sunny yet shivery winter afternoon.
Unexpectedly, we encountered many stylish café workers. In fact, the theme of this Style Sample almost changed due to the sheer number of stylish hospitality workers we spotted. A café worker told us to wander around JamFactory, because “that is where all the stylish people are”. They weren’t wrong; we found at least five fashionable people walking in and out of the gallery.
We talked to people of various hobbies and occupations: painters, band members, (stylish) café workers, self-titled groupies, university students and lads enjoying an end-of-week beer or two.
We asked these people about their guilty pleasure food, favourite place to eat and drink in the West End and go-to dinner style.
Octavia Lee
Favourite place to drink in the West End?
I would say Nearly Bar.

Your go-to dinner outfit?
Something comfortable and lightweight.

Favourite place to eat?
Shobosho on Leigh Street. I went there recently for my third year anniversary, and it was so delicious. We are going to Japan at the end of the year, so it was a nice little test for what’s to come.

Guilty pleasure food?
I love the GYG [Guzman y Gomez] tacos, like the chicken tender tacos.

Favourite place to eat and drink in the West End?
I’ll give you two answers. My favourite place to drink is Jive. It’s very fun with the gigs there. The bands set the vibe for what the night is going to be like at that place. Right next door to that has really good Banh Mi; it’s called Phonatic.

Lana Misic
Your go-to dinner style?
I’m going to think about my dinner style in terms of food and say that I love eating something that is interactive, something like hotpot or where you get to put the ingredients into the bowl.
Rithick Dias

I’d say Phonatic for sure.

Guilty pleasure food?
I can’t have dairy, so I go for the vegan almond Magnum ice creams, and I love it; it’s so good. I have like two boxes in my freezer.
Billy Burns
Guilty pleasure food?
My guilty pleasure is KFC. I hate to admit it, but I do love to eat it every now and then.
Stuart Smith
Favourite place to eat?
This may be not strictly West End but earlier today I was at the Adelaide Lebanese Bakery. It’s such a beautiful place and the food is so cheap.
