Reflecting on the Premier's call last week for a cleaner, greener future in Adelaide, cartoonist Ross Bateup looks at a technology of the past that could make it all possible sooner.

Last week, Premier Jay Weatherill used the opening of Parliament to outline his long terms vision for the state, which includes everything from a Royal Commission into the nuclear energy sector to legislation that aims to keep pertrol-fuelled cars out of the city.

What struck cartoonist Ross Bateup most keenly though was the Premier’s calls for a carbon neutral city powered by electric and driverless cars. He thinks these technologies of the future could well be substituted by a trusty friend from the past – the bicycle.
