The Adelaide Fashion Festival officially opened last night (Wednesday) with an event at Tandanya Aboriginal Culture Institute. In essence, it was 70 per cent party, 30 per cent taste tester for tonight’s show, Nurlanthi, which is an Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander cultural fashion performance.

Remarks

Highlight: Electric Fields’ energetic and emotive musical performance.

Lowlight: The fried chicken was delicious but sparse.

Models of diverse cultural backgrounds were clad in garments by a wide selection of designers showing over the duration of the festival, and we noticed a definite nod to Kanye West’s Yeezy shows, wherein models simply stand in unity on a platform for dramatic affect. The allusion was made stronger by the creative accessorising of beige stockings, and mesh and Perspex footwear.
