Scott Huggins has taken over management and the lease of Penfolds Magill Estate Restaurant and Kitchen from Penfolds, while also establishing a large orchard and kitchen garden at Piccadilly.
Executive chef Scott Huggins takes over management of Magill Estate Restaurant
From April 6, Magill Estate Restaurant will begin trading under a company set up by Scott Huggins, which will continue a working relationship with Penfolds.
Scott was named the restaurant’s Executive Chef in 2013 when he took over from previous head chef Jock Zonfrillo, after the restaurant was closed for nearly two years.
In 2015, Magill Estate was named South Australia’s best restaurant in the Australian Financial Review’s list of Australia’s Top 100 Restaurants.
The Melbourne-born chef told CityMag he is excited about the future of the restaurant, while he is also working to develop a large kitchen garden on a 2.8-hectare property he owns at Piccadilly.
“Independently managing Penfolds Magill Estate Restaurant and Kitchen is an exciting development for us, as we continue to offer one of Australia’s finest food and wine experiences,” says Scott.
“The culinary direction will always focus on highlighting and working with the best South Australian producers and in my new role as Director, I look forward to sharing my contemporary approach to food, complemented by an extensive collection of Penfolds wines.
“Magill Estate Restaurant and Kitchen are located at Penfolds’ spiritual home, overlooking the historic vineyard just 15 minutes from Adelaide city.”
There will be no disruption to trading at the restaurant as Scott’s new company takes control.
Magill Estate Restaurant is located at 78 Penfold Road, Rosslyn Park and operates Wednesday through Sunday.
