The team behind some of Adelaide’s best hospo venues has introduced a new way to have wine delivered in South Australia, and you’re invited to the launch party.
I’ll DRNK to that
Another Kind, the group that owns the Leigh Street Wine Room, Press Food & Wine and Peel St, have formed a venture to bring the online wine retailer DRNKS into South Australia, offering same-day service for the site’s organic and natural beverages.
DRNKS, which was started by Joel Amos in Sydney in 2013, now has a South Australian dedicated site to sell organic and sustainable wine, beer, sake and spirits – plus heaps of other kitchen staples.
The goal is to “offer an alternative to the mundane, corporate wine retail scene that dominates Australia” and Joel says the shop therefore doesn’t limit itself to certified organic and natural drinks because he wants to support all sorts of independent winemakers to sell their vintages.
“We’re supporters of great farming and family-owned wineries,” says Joel, whose mother owns a vineyard in McLaren Vale.
Joel, talking to CityMag from outside Leigh Street Wine Room as he prepares for the launch party on Sunday, 22 January, says sa.drnks.com has given him the opportunity to return home more often from Sydney.
“I love Adelaide and this venture not only gives me the opportunity to spend more time in SA but also helps to speed up our national expansion plans,” Joel says.
He says that using Another Kinds’ warehousing and distribution network (which they built for their online Juice Traders business which has since transformed into DRNKS SA) means they can expand more rapidly.
They’re now in the process of finding a suitable physical store to operate out of in Adelaide, just as Joel does in Sydney.
“It works because we are able to work with our own drivers and our own vans, not with couriers,” he says.
To celebrate the launch and show off what they’re offering, Joel and Another Kind’s general manager, Meira Harel, and creative director, James Spreadbury, are inviting everyone to Leigh Street Wine Room on Sunday, 22 January, from 2pm to taste the wines and meet the winemakers.

Joel says there will be at least 14 winemakers, all but one of them South Australian, and you’ll be able to speak with them about their organic or natural wines.
“Every half hour a new winemaker will be pouring their wines, so there will be a lot to taste,” Joel says.
“You’ll be able to stand around and chat with the winemakers to learn their stories and have an expert right there to answer any questions.
“We’re selling wine by the glass and the bottle at a reasonable price and everyone is welcome.”
To launch the site they’re also giving away $1000 in DRNKS vouchers on the day.
“Every attendee can go into the draw to win $1000 worth of DRNKS as well,” Joel says.
The sa.drnks.com site, which is already live, offers same-day delivery around Greater Adelaide for orders placed before 3pm and, as a bonus to city dwellers, delivery to the CBD surrounds for orders received before 6pm.
It also offers club memberships offering up to 12 handpicked wines delivered to your door each month.
