State Opera’s new production of La Traviata will bring a breath of fresh air to a romance classic when it opens at Her Majesty’s Theatre next month.

Created in collaboration with Opera Queensland and West Australian Opera, Verdi’s work gets a distinctly modern twist at the hands of award-winning theatre director Sarah Giles and designer Charles Davis.

The romantic and heartbreaking story of Paris party girl (and courtesan) Violetta and aristocratic Alfredo, forbidden to love each other, has served as inspiration for modern adaptations like Pretty Woman and Moulin Rouge.
