Adelaide Contemporary Experimental (ACE) is this week hosting a typography workshop, run by type and graphic designer Dennis Grauel.

Dennis was part of the team who helped in the rebranding of ACE from its original moniker, ACE Open, creating a custom typeface for the renewed brand.

The workshop will take participants through the basics of font editing in a program called Glyphs, which will result in a collaboratively created font.

More than pure practicality, Dennis will show how experimental typography can be used to draw on de-colonial critique and collective approaches to font-making.

Those who sign up for the event need only bring along a computer and the free-trial version of Glyphs. Attendees are also encouraged to bring along old street directories and miscellaneous maps.
