It feels like there are hundreds of places to explore in the city of late and never enough time to do it. Which is why the Hutt Street Pocket Party #2 is so appealing.

Remarks

Hutt Street Pocket Party
4.30pm ’til late, Friday, 27 May
Hutt Street, Adelaide 5000

ADL Unleashed is a joint initiative of the Government of South Australia, the City of Adelaide and the Adelaide Economic Development Agency.

Brought to you by ADL Unleashed, it’s an effortless way to chart your own mini adventure of food, drinks and Friday night fun.

Spanning both sides of the intersection of Hutt and Gilles streets, the pocket party will kick off as the sun goes down with live music. There’ll be fire pits to keep revellers toasty warm, and fire twirlers to mesmerise and amaze.

Dancing is encouraged. If you’re shy about wiggling your hips, first take a few notes from the rock’n’roll swing dancers, who’ll also be putting on a show. Or ease in with some tried and true tethered-on-the-spot bobbing before letting loose.

Of course, there must also be food and drinks. Hutt Street is known for its restaurants and this Pocket Party will be fuelled by irresistible Asian flavours.

Conveniently, the four restaurants are all neighbours, making it easy to check out the various menus before deciding what to eat first.

Raj On Taj will have their full menu on offer, including Indian street foods, such as samosa chaat, pakoras, chicken tikka and kebabs. Make sure to try their gulab jamun – those little donut balls soaked in aromatic syrup are always a winner.

Next door at BeWon Korean Restaurant, you can satisfy your noodle cravings or try something different, such as Korean kimchi pancake or grilled sweet corn cheese.

Lovers of Japanese food should head straight for Nagomi. It consistently attracts perfect scores on restaurant rating sites. You could book a table on Friday for their kaiseki five-course meal. Or stay street-side, so as not to miss the live entertainment, and eat your fill of favourites, including octopus or chicken karaage, okonomiyaki or agedashi tofu.

Rounding out the four restaurants in the Pocket Party is Kin Kin Thai Eatery. This little gem will have something for everyone, with classic street food including gai tord (deep fried marinated chicken wings) and gui chai (fried garlic chive cake), which both go great with a craft beer.

Speaking of beer, across the road the Arab Steed will have an expanded outdoor area for dining and drinking and live music. Next door, Hutt Street Cellars will be hosting a tasting bar with outdoor seating, so you can linger between sips.

If you want to bring the kids for a quick Friday night treat, not a full-blown feast, Naughty Nanna’s Cookies should be one of your stops. They’ll have a stall set up at the door, with outdoor dining.

Pair it with a great coffee and grown up dessert from Bici Espresso and you’ll be seriously happy you made the effort to climb off the couch.

All in all, it’s certain to be a great night out in our wonderful city.
