Written on an Asialink India literature residency, the work centres on an Indian back-lane guests house. The colourful characters who inhabit it are moving on after spending decades together, but their parting of ways won’t come without stories, heartfelt goodbyes – and consequences.
The Ajoona Guest House comes off the back of Stephen’s previous acclaimed and widely toured works, Appalling Behaviour and Almost Face to Face, both published by Australian Plays Transform.
Praise for Stephens work includes:
“A natural raconteur.” The Age
“An amazing story-teller.” The Music
A brave and accomplished artist.” Stage Whispers
“House’s stage persona is magnetic.” The Advertiser
“Confident, practised and expert.” Barefoot Review
The creation of The Ajoona Guest House was assisted by Arts SA, the City of West Torrens, and Asialink and is playing from 30 November to 11 December at Bakehouse Theatre.
