In its latest exhibition, IT’S COMPLICATED, the University of South Australia’s Museum of Discovery (aka MOD.) is delving into interconnectedness and the problems that arise when manipulating complex systems.

Even seemingly well-thought-out solutions can have unexpected and unintended consequences – such as those discussed in the Operation Cat Drop exhibit, which explores how a malaria outbreak in Borneo in the 1950s resulted in parachuting cats descending on the country.

Like they’ve said, it’s complicated.

There is much more to explore, including the Chaos Machine, proving the difficulty in predicting non-linear systems; Cave of Sounds, an interactive musical instrument that responds to light, shadows and human bodies; and time spent scouring the depths of the ocean with Crazy Little Thing Called BRUV.
