In spite of the hardships the hospitality industry has faced in the last eight months, 2020 is a year of expansion for coffee company Octeine.

The Kent Town-based business has today launched its fourth frontage, inside Barossa winery Seppeltsfield’s village complex.

Octeine joins Seppeltsfield’s winery and cellar door, as well as other businesses trading on the property: restaurant FINO, JamFactory Craft and Design Studios, Vasse Virgin Skin Care and Segway Sensation SA.

The partnership with Octeine has been in the works for around 12 months, but discussions became serious when the winery shut its house-run café due at the outset of COVID.

Octeine founder (and certified hunk) Pete Mann saw room in the Barossa for another specialty coffee offering, and sharing space with such an iconic Barossa brand made sense.

“People in wine regions are jumping around from place to place, they’re on their own little adventure, whatever it is, so for us, with that outdoor activity brand ethos, I think it fit quite well,” Pete says.

“And I just love this atmosphere – the community vibe. I’m a big, big fan of it. It’s what made it felt right for me.”

Octeine at Seppeltsfield offers the same house-roasted specialty coffee as its Kent Town, Torrensville and CBD sister sites, but will also offer single-origin coffee flights for those interested in learning more about Octeine’s coffee and process.

“It’s the same coffee, extracted three different ways. You’ve got espresso, you’ve got the same espresso with milk, and then you’ve got the batch brew,” Pete explains.

“The idea is to bring that tasting experience to the coffee, as opposed to just [tasting] through the wine [at the] cellar door. We’re playing off that a little bit.

“This is the best opportunity to [foster knowledge about coffee], because the customer here has that in mind.”

The café’s food offering consists of raw treats and health-conscious food, with the addition of an extensive offering of açai bowls.

“It’s very similar to our other sites… raw treats that fit in with that active lifestyle,” Pete says.

“We’re not necessarily health freaks, but we try to offer a healthy option.”

For those looking for something a little less healthy to pair with the coffee, the Octeine at Seppeltsfield site is licensed, with Seppeltsfield wines available by the glass, and a range of local beer.

Octeine’s menu also provides visitors with a more accessible food offering, for families not looking for the full restaurant experience, such as is available at FINO.

The café looks out over sprawling parklands, with picnic-style seating options available.

Just behind the café building, the Seppeltsfield site has plans in the works to construct a new hotel by the year 2022. Pete says he’s excited to now be part of the Seppeltsfield offering, and for his brand to grow alongside the expansion.

Seppeltsfield owner Warren Randall shares the sentiment.

“We are thrilled to work in partnership with like-minded businesses and people,” he says.

“Octeine Coffee will bring a new dimension to the Seppeltsfield Village and the Barossa, catering for visitors looking to make a pitstop and refuel their engines, whilst they explore all the region has to offer.

“Working with fellow entrepreneur Pete Mann and his thriving Octeine Coffee business has been a pleasure and we look forward to a strong and successful future together here at Seppeltsfield.”
