Foyer Fridays started as a livestreamed music series, but is now inviting an audience to witness intimate sets from Adelaide’s most exciting musicians in the foyer of the historic Woodville Town Hall, kicking off with MANE and Leni this Friday.

Two months ago, the City of Charles Sturt introduced its Foyer Fridays concept – a small-scale gig series hosted in the foyer of the recently refurbished 1920s Woodville Town Hall.

Originally conceptualised as an in-person live music experience, the pandemic necessitated a shift to livestreaming the event, which kicked off with a series of performances programmed by jazz musician-about-town Adam Page.

With restrictions now eased, Foyer Fridays, which is now in its third series, is welcoming in 60 people at a time to see the gig live, while also livestreaming for those who miss out.

The new Foyers Fridays series has a focus on local and interstate contemporary pop, soul, blues, hip hop and R&B artists, with the first event, happening Friday, 24 July featuring MANE and Leni.

“I’m really excited to be playing in front of a live audience again,” MANE says.

“Particularly being able to play a bunch of new material in a stripped-back setting, there’s been a lot of new music written over the last year that I can’t wait to play.”

Future editions of Foyer Fridays will see Charli Umami, Corey Theatre and Hannah Yates take the stage (21 August), followed by Katie Aspel, Paul MacLeod and Nancy Bates with Annie Siegmann and Ryan Martin John (18 September).

Bets of all, the gig series is free to view, whether in person or via livestream – making true on the City of Charles Sturt’s commitment to supporting and making accessible live music within their community.

“We continue to be committed to supporting live music in our community,” says Mayor Angela Evans.

“This includes our local artists who have been severely impacted by COVID-19 and will be for the foreseeable future.

“Foyer Fridays is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our local artists and musicians, reopen our doors to the Woodville Town Hall and bring life and energy back to our community.”
