CityMag office survey: Shows we’re actually going to see

We asked around the office for a one-sentence pitch for what everyone's got tickets to during Fringe and Festival season.

A real test of intra-office cohesion is just how much you trust your coworkers’ arts and culture recommendations.

Here at CityMag we bloody love our magazine family, and so we jetted around the office for everyone’s top pick of the Fringe and Festival season and asked them to spruik the show with a one-sentence pitch.

We’ll see you at each of these six shows, and for the rest of the festival period you can expect to find us either typing or sleeping at our desks.

It’s a very busy time of year.

Weyes Blood

Thursday, 5 March

The newest nymph in town, musician Weyes Blood ticks all our boxes with her long brown hair, ethereal dream pop, and unwavering support for Bernie Sanders.

Uke Springsteen

Every Tuesday, 18 February—10 March
Grace Emily Hotel
Tickets

I thought I wasn’t a fan of Bruce Springsteen, but then I listened to a radio documentary on him on Cruise 1323 AM and now I’m definitely on my way. Hearing his music played on ukulele might be the final nudge I need.

James Donald Forbes McCann: Devil’s Advocate

14—29 February
The Howling Owl
Tickets

Write down the least defensible statement you can conjure up, put it in a bucket, and let Adelaide comedian James Donald Forbes McCann vicariously exorcise all your demons by defending that statement on stage.

Amyl and The Sniffers

Thursday, 5 March
LVL 5, RCC
Tickets

The first time I saw yob-rock outfit Amyl and the Sniffers, it felt like a fever dream. Lead singer Amy Taylor’s rough-as-guts stage presence is boomer repellent, but would still blow the roof off the local RSL.

Nicky Capurso, CityMag Graphic Designer

Larry Dean: Fudnut

2—15 March
Le Cascadeur, The Garden of Unearthly Delights
Tickets

I’ve watched every Larry Dean clip available – so I’m pumped to see his fresh material. Dean has shown himself to be crazy quick while balancing the fine line between tragedy and comedy with all the skills of a more seasoned comic.
