C’mon Aussie C’mon poster launch
In 2017, Australia got its act together and legalised same sex marriage. Long after the cheers and joyful tears were sounded out and wiped away, an exuberant energy still echoes throughout Adelaide’s streets in the form of three boldly emblazoned, hand-printed words: C’MON AUSSIE C’MON.
It’s perhaps too generous to say that Jake Holmes’ poster campaign swayed the vote in any way, but it gave a sense of visibility and connectedness to the 62 per cent of us who voted in favour of equality.
On Friday, 26 January, Jake, in collaboration with Indigenous artist Elizabeth Close, will launch the next C’MON campaign, in which the two artists will lend their hands to the national ‘Change the Date’ debate.
The rainbow flag will give way to Elizabeth’s designs, and, all going according to plan, Adelaide will soon be awash with posters imploring the public to listen to, acknowledge, and ally with the voices of Aboriginal people.
The campaign will launch at 10:30am on Friday, 26 January on the steps of Parliament House. For more information, see the event page.
