Dark Matter

The Z Ward in Glenside has lived a long and interesting life.

At its beginning in the late 19th century, it housed those in Adelaide’s population who were deemed to be criminally insane. Later, in the 1970s, it would house reams of files belonging to the Department of Mining.

Remarks

Dark Matter is happening from 6pm on Friday, 21 July at Z Ward, 63 Conyngham Street, Glenside.

Now, more than 130 years since its foundations were laid, the building, designed by EJ Woods (also responsible for the Mortlock Wing, St Peter’s Cathedral and Parliament House) is experiencing a renaissance.

This weekend, Dark Matter will descend upon its empty cells with a roster of electronic musicians, visual artists and tattoo artists, bringing life back to the former asylum.

The musicians in tow include IsomerEyes More Skull Than Eyes, and Sydney-based Kusume Normoyle, amongst many more.

The visual artists exhibiting in the cells are Olivia Kathigitis, NUSS, cj80vip, Lucas Croall, RUSTED CHROMA, Kerri-Ann Wright, BAD BABU, Aptitude Boredd, Kelly Rose, Baby Teefff, Nathan Peacock, Jack Ladd and Capital Waste Pictures, and tattoos will be provided by Jamie Brockenbrow of House of Daggers Tattoo Collective.

For food and beverage, Delinquente are providing wine and Folklore Café will bring the eats.
