Our guide to Adelaide Fashion Week
Adelaide Fashion Week is back for its third year, with designers, brands and even hospitality venues getting in on the fun to create unique activities that prove there’s more to style than just what you wear.
Adelaide Economic Development Agency Chair Nikki Govan says the weekend is one of the city’s most anticipated annual events.
“The packed program includes events at some of the newest and most popular hospitality venues in the city which have collaborated with designers and brands to develop unique experiences only available during AFW,” Nikki says.
Though titled Adelaide Fashion Week, the event only spans a weekend and they have crammed in plenty to eat, watch and try yourself in that time. Here’s a round-up of what’s on our to-do list.
Rundle Mall
The fashion week-ready offering from Messina is all about indulgence
Rundle Mall will be full of fashion-oriented pop-ups for the occasion. Expect a customisation station from Adelaide designer Katya Komarova, who specialises in handbags with interchangeable straps and handles. Have You Met Charlie, who celebrated their 10th birthday earlier this year, will be there with owner Lauren Harper’s jewellery label Mintcloud running earring-making workshops. Dulcie’s, who joined the Adelaide Arcade last year, will also have their unmissable revamped bus for you to climb aboard and shop vintage.
As for food and drink, the Gawler Place canopy will be transformed into an Amalfi-inspired Aperitivo Bar, hosted by The Speakeasy Hotel. They’ll be serving Negroni, Campari, Aperol, and an exclusive range of Adelaide Fashion Week-inspired cocktails crafted by specialist mixologist, Jordon Pridham. If you’re after a sweet treat, look no further than Gelato Messina who will be serving up a special Pavalaska; a vanilla gelato and passionfruit sorbet with baked meringue and swirls of kiwifruit puree dipped in Italian meringue, dusted with raspberry powder.
Eat & drink
An Ode to the Artist
ODÉ Bistro fuses flavours and techniques from French, Spanish, and modern Asian cuisine and are hosting a special Sunday luncheon for fashion week, featuring a selection of wines, cocktails, champagne, and tasty canapés crafted by award-winning chef Simon Ming. The event will include a talk by special guest Sonja Hosking, founder of Hosking Interior Design on the connection between fashion and interior design.
This event is on Sunday, October 13 from 12:00pm ’til 2:30pm. Tickets are $95 and available via the Adelaide Fashion Week website.
Silhouettes in Symphony High Tea: A Presentation by Saint Stella Michaelides
Fashion designer, stylist, filmmaker & illustrator Estelle Michaelides is creating a one-of-a-kind evening of fashion, music and dance over high tea to Adelaide in an event that would make a great gift for the ballet fan in your life. Estelle displays her latest collection through a theatrical performance and offers a glance at her creative process as she styles two ballerinas in real time.
This event takes place on Saturday, October 12 at the Garcon Bleu inside Sofitel. Tickets are $150 and available via Eventbrite.
RUNWAY
HAUNTING BLOOMS BY KIRA BAYLISS
Although we have filed this under ‘runway’, Haunting Blooms isn’t really. They’re treating their new collection reveal as an exhibition instead. Inspired by the need to create wearable art and make it accessible for everyday use, South Australian designer Kira Bayliss Clothing blends fashion and art in the whimsical Haunting Blooms, which drapes wearable art pieces over runway models as if they were sculptures.
Haunting Blooms is at The Mill on 154 Angus Street on Saturday October 12 from 7pm ’til 10pm. Tickets are $25 and available via Eventbrite.
Wear the Music
If you love music and fashion, this event blends both into an immersive show by Addicted to Audio. For the fashion, expect looks from Filter Store, Shop Pond, Goodbyes, Morrison Clothing, Eleventh House the Label, Midwest Trader and more. Each look will be accessorised with high-end portable audio players and sleek headphones. Hosting the show and DJing is Travis Demsey, drummer of punk band The Living End.

DIY
CLOTHES SWAP AT MÂCHÉ
Keeping up with the latest styles can be a stressful and expensive ordeal in an evolving trend cycle. If you’re looking to swap your preloved pieces for a new wardrobe, this circular fashion event is for you.
Bring no more than five pieces of unwanted clothing in good condition – clean, tear-free and of high quality – and hunt for new additions to your wardrobe while mingling, and enjoying music and drinks.
The clothes swap is held at Mâché Coworking Space on Friday, October 11 from 4pm ’til 6pm. Tickets are $10 via Eventbrite.
CROCHET YOUR OWN BIKINI.
Two nonne (Italian for grandmothers) Angelina and Maria are crochet artists and sustainability advocates with a love of granny squares. They’ll guide beginners and experienced crafters alike in crocheting stretch cotton bikinis in this workshop. Delve into designing and creating your own pattern for a bikini to pattern to be completed on the day or you can bring it back later for assistance.
All materials are provided on the day, including the high-quality American cotton stretch yarns. This workshop is perfect for upcoming summer days at the beach.

Fashion: On the Mend
Elizabeth from Bulbosa Style knows that sometimes holes happen, spaghetti stains happen and this is part of life. But she doesn’t believe this is a good enough reason to banish your favourite jeans to the back of your wardrobe. This workshop will help you give your loved items a second chance, by turning wardrobe mishaps into unique, one-of-a-kind pieces through visible mending.
No mending or sewing experience is required for this workshop, and fabric extras, embroidery thread in a range of colours and needles will be provided. If you have your own supplies, feel free to bring them, along with a pair of jeans or a woven (not stretchy) top or skirt with a hole or stain up to the size of a 10-cent coin.

LEARN
FASHION.REBORN- TOWARDS CIRCULARITY
Towards Circularity is a panel event focusing on the future of fashion, sustainability, and style. Guests will learn from a South Australian creatives, companies, academics, and government representatives as they explore the fashion industry’s impact on people and the environment.
The panel features topics like circular fashion, a sustainable approach that focuses on reducing waste and extending the life cycle of clothing by upcycling, recycling, repairing, and repurposing garments. They will also talk about the responsibility of the fashion industry to manage waste. An open Q&A session will follow to encourage open discussion.
The event will be held at the Hotel Richmond on Friday, October 11 from 3pm ’til 5pm. Tickets are on sale at $25 on Eventbrite.
RED CARPET SCREENING: DUST- TO -DUST.
Adelaide Fashion Week is collaborating with the Adelaide Film Festival to bring a Red-carpet Australian premiere of the Dust-to-Dust film directed by Kosai Sekine, a documentary on Yuima Nakazato, the second Japanese designer to be invited to Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, also known for dressing celebrity musician, Lady Gaga. Nakazato radically reimagines fashion materials by beginning in the landfills of Kenya, and creating his upcoming collection by blending his creativity with green technology.
The screening includes a Q&A session featuring Adelaide Fashion Week guests Art Gallery of South Australia’s curator of decorative art and design Rebecca Evans, and founder and head designer of Paolo Sebastian, Paul Vasileff.
The premiere takes place at the Palace Nova Eastend Cinema from 6:30pm Friday, October 11. Tickets are on sale for $25 full price and $20 for Concession, Industry and Companion Card holders on the Adelaide Film Festival website.
The Secrets to Smart Diamond Buying Masterclass
Purchasing diamonds is as always straightforward as one may think, with it comes the stress of figuring out the different cuts and the right ring shape and size to go with your choice.
