Drum and bass festival Our Sound will unleash this summer, featuring acts like Pendulum, Luude and more.

From the co-owner of Fringe’s Gluttony, Daniel Michael, who is also the director of Groove Events, comes brand new drum and bass festival Our Sound.

Debuting on the first weekend of summer – like Stereosonic used to in their heyday in Adelaide – Our Sound will take place on December 7 at Bonython Park.

Early 2000s underground favourites Pendulum, known for their debut album Hold Your Colour which includes tracks like ‘Slam’ and ‘Blood Sugar’, is set to headline.

DJ El Hornet will be representing Pendulum, as the three-piece rarely tours and plays gigs as a group.

“We booked Pendulum to DJ at Gluttony this year and they sold out two shows,” Daniel says.

“We weren’t expecting that. We were expecting them to do one show – that big outdoor music stage we have at Gluttony fits 1500 – so we thought it would be 1200 maybe 1500 people.”

Australian DJ and producer Luude is also set to headline, who rose to fame after his 2021 cover of ‘Down Under’.

Although there’s the inclusion of national DJs, Adelaide locals are also set to play with Voe, Patch and The Collective joining the lineup.

While Adelaide and Australia have seen many festival cancellations like Harvest Rock, Groovin the Moo and Vintage Vibes, Daniel assures us drum and bass fans are “enthused and willing to support the music in the state”.

“It’s a true testament to fans of the genre,” he says.

Daniel discovered the genre drum and bass genre early in his career while working as a rave promoter in the 90s.

“In that time period, it grew from a very niche sound into something a little bit bigger,” he says.

“And then when we used to run the Enchanted Forest series of raves out in the middle of nowhere. We did that for 10 years, from 1998 to about 2007 or eight or something.

“That had one main stage, which was kind of hard dance and stuff and then the other one was a drum and bass stage.

“I think drum and bass then went through a bit of a lull, but recently it’s really come back and so I’m pretty excited about it.”
