The Spirits of the Pumpkins Descended into the Heavens
Yayoi Kusama has built a career investigating the concept of infinity through sensory experiences created by repetition. She often employs polka-dots, eyes, pumpkins and mirror installations as motifs.

In her immersive pieces, Yayoi also explores the human body and its relation to space. The Spirits of the Pumpkins Descended into the Heavens is an installation visitors can walk through, comprised of a vibrant yellow room decorated with various sizes of black polka dots.
In the centre of the room, there is a mirrored box which contains illuminated sculptures of pumpkins.
The mirrors reflect the pumpkins around the room and, combined with the dots, create an illusion of infinite time and colour.
The Spirits of the Pumpkins Descended into the Heavens will show at the Art Gallery of South Australia from Friday, 1 April.
