Animal Farm
The hotly anticipated of one-man adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm officially kicks off tomorrow, Friday, 21 March.
The show will be outgoing artistic director Geordie Brookman’s farewell from the company, and was created especially for actor Renato Musolino.
“Under the guidance of some rebellious pigs, a group of farm animals unite to drive out their cruel human oppressors and build utopia. But the swine are not as united as they appear and their division gives rise to a terrifying new system of power and repression,” the State Theatre website states.
The story was originally written in the 1940s as a response to the rise of authoritarian governments around the world, and its relevance only builds in our increasingly globally fractured political times.
Whil all State Theatre shows are, of course, created equal, this show will certainly be more equal than most.
Animal Farm has a short run through ’til 30 March, so if you’ve got tickets, well done to you. If not, there were some last minute extra tickets released earlier today. Get to it.
