This year’s Adelaide Fringe show Borealis and 2017’s Parade of Light proved this, and now our passion for bright, coloured lights has borne Illuminate Adelaide – a dazzling festival of art, light, technology and music, happening in the height of winter.
The festival will feature 40 projections and immersive experiences across the city, free to be enjoyed by passers-by.
There will be an after dark event at Adelaide Zoo, which will see its favourite creatures portrayed in enlarged form by huge colourful lanterns.
There will also be a large-scale digital and aural ode to Van Gogh’s masterpieces, and Light Cycles will turn the Adelaide Botanic Gardens into a neon forest.
The Avalanches will also appear at the festival, partnering with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra to reimagine their 2000 breakthrough album Since I Left You.

You can also check out the playful pop-culture-inspired art of Kaylene Whiskey, which will be projected onto façade of the Institute Building on North Terrace.
Read CityMag‘s interview with the artist about her project, titled Kaylene TV, here.
