Written by actor and playwright Jamila Main and directed by Teddy Dunn, Butterfly Kicks follows three teenagers growing up in a claustrophobic coastal town as they experience queer self-discovery, bravery and loyalty in a story of first love, competition and friendship.

Butterfly Kicks was a finalist in the 2020 Queer Playwright Awards and the 2018 Queer Short Story Award, and its staging at Rumpus is the world premiere of the work.

Rumpus is an artist-run organisation based in Bowden supporting emerging artists in Adelaide’s theatre scene.
