Here at CityMag, we realise one thing to be thankful for in the first quarter of every year is that the Gods and public officials that grace our Gregorian Calendar with civically ordained days off had the good grace to program a whole bunch of public holidays early on, making the transition back to work at the beginning of the year just that little bit more palatable.

Sure, the short weeks can be painful for people working to tight weekly deadlines (hello to our media siblings), but the bliss of a guilt-free Sunday afternoon drinking wine followed by a Monday sleep in will always outweigh the adrenalin-riddled four days that follow.

This week marks the finale of the public holiday blitz, and so you will want to spend these work-free days correctly. This will obviously mean spending some time at your grandparents’ house with a hot cup of International Roast and a selection of Arnott’s cream biscuits, but it is also a brilliant opportunity to return the love and bring Nanna down to The Exeter for a Good Friday pint.
