Tomorrow, Bert Flugelman's 'The Spheres' sculpture - lovingly known as The Mall's Balls - will be officially launched in their new spot, three metres north of where they once stood. CityMag wonders whether the world will stop turning as a result.

The famous Bert Flugelman sculpture, The Spheres, that for so long sat central in Rundle Mall will be unveiled tomorrow – cleaned, polished and in a new slightly off-centre position. Flugelman himself warned against changing the Balls’ position, but Council voted that a view of the Hills and a clear thoroughfare were worth the controversy. Cartoonist and Urban Planning specialist Ross Bateup is more concerned about the practical use of the icon – with many first dates set to get off to an awkward and late start.
