Madeline Reece’s The Colour of Saying

  • Words: Connie De Crea

Adelaide based artist Madeline Reece brings her exhibition, The Colour of Saying, to life next Thursday, as she reflects on the written postcard during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

Remarks

The Colour of Saying shows August 4 – October 14 at the Art Pod on 25 Pirie Street, Adelaide. The exhibition launches 5.30pm-7.30pm on August 4, and there is an artist talk with Madeline Reece prior to that at 5pm.

Presenting Madeline’s own self-made postcards alongside a number of found postcards extracted from the Adelaide City Archives, The Colour of Saying references a history of travel and exchange, memory and space.

Curated by Joanna Kitto as part of the Adelaide City Council’s Emerging Curator Program, and presented as part of the South Australian Living Artists Festival (SALA) 2016, the exhibition examines the disconnect between souvenir postcards and the reality of a place.
