In this exhibition commissioned by ACE Open, South Australian artist Sera Waters tracks the unravelling of “the complex histories and traditions of home-making”.

Drawing on her own family history, and the “ongoing legacy of colonial home-making,” the artist creates intricate embroidery and large sculptures, with the intent of “celebrating the knowledge and creativity of ‘women’s work,’ while also revealing their complicity with forms of colonisation and privilege”.

Remarks

Domestic Arts opens on Thursday, 20 July from 5:30pm at ACE Open in the Lion Arts Centre, Corner of North Terrace and Morphett Street.

The exhibition – called Domestic Arts – has a free opening night event tonight (Thursday, July 20), which will be complemented by a free artist talk on Saturday, July 29, as well as an embroidery workshop, held on Saturday, 12 August, with tickets available for $20.
