“I love Magill Road,” says Leanne Condina of Cocoon Spa. The entrepreneur has built her business on Magill Road over the past seven years to the point where, last year, she and husband Dom designed and constructed the perfect building for their business. “We outgrew our old space and this provided the opportunity to expand what we were doing and how we are doing it. I wanted to create a sanctuary for people.” Designed like a hotel, Cocoon Spa has considered every step their clients take within the premise. Cocoon’s business is based around helping people reconnect with what’s important and giving their clients time to breathe and slow down. One of Cocoon Spa’s more popular gifts is the couple’s day spa treatment where a pair spend the day as Leanne says, “just being together – just giving quality time to one another.” Now that sounds a lot like Christmas to us.

A true gem of a find, Ecolateral is the perfect antidote to mindless consumerism. If you, like we, watched Craig Reucassel’s War on Waste then you’ll be thinking twice about everything you buy from glad wrap to take away coffee. Liddy Dolman’s wonderfully appointed store on Magill Road is a testament to everything sustainable and considerate. With literally something for every age bracket, Ecolateral is a one-stop shop for stocking stuffers as well as a complete lifestyle makeover. And while Magill Road has a strong organic community, Ecolateral is a special store that goes above and beyond in sourcing the most interesting and attractive alternatives to every day consumable and high-end luxury purchases.

With a deep knowledge of corporate retail and the experience of running her own café, Nadine Silverberg was set on a course that would combine the two backgrounds after attending Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food in Noarlunga. “I was so inspired after the course that I knew exactly what I wanted to do in business and that was to get as many people into the kitchen as possible,” says Nadine. Established in the old Pasta Deli site – Scoffed has a fully appointed and open plan kitchen for classes to gather around while professional chefs from restaurants such as Chloe’s and Windy Point give instruction on simple meals through to more gourmet productions.  “We wanted this to be a place where kids act like adults and adults like kids,” says Nadine about their education style. Nadine’s business partner, Mark Busse, points out the garden beds in the parking lot and proudly tells us how powerful an experience growing and cooking food has been for some of their students. An ideal activity for young and old this summer, Scoffed will soon be adding a special BBQ course to their list of classes that range from beginner to advanced.

360 Gradi is the authentic pizza experience – the restaurant goes so far as to import flour and water from Italy to create the perfect dough. Greeted at the front door with a cheerful Italian accent we’re ushered through the multi-room restaurant to a window seat and furnished with a detailed menu. After anti-pasto to start before sampling the staff recommended pizza – Bufala E Crudo, we were transported to Napoli in an instant. Clearly a local favourite, 360 Gradi is a slice of Magill Road you can also take away and it’s the ideal way to wrap up a wonderful Christmas experience in the neighbourhood.
